June 2017 Meeting Recap

June Meeting Recap

Submitted by Anne U., Secretary

June’s meeting was held at the Methodist Church  in downtown Bloomington.  Five guests from Champaign and 40 members were present.  Kathy Cook welcomed everyone and thanked  Celeste, Nancy, Carol and Lisa for the picnic-themed refreshments.  Hospitality Chair Lee Anne Fritz asked for volunteers to bring refreshments for future meetings.  Contact her if you are willing to help.

Kathy then introduced our presenter, Patty Young, author, fabric designer for Riley Blake, and owner of ModKids. Patty talked about the trends she saw at this year’s spring quilt market, a trade show open to shop owners for all things quilt-related.  The trends she noted this year were rainbow and animals.  She showed pictures from market that showed these trends, and shared pics of several of her new fabric lines for Riley Blake.  Attendees also had a chance to shop her patterns and some fabrics she brought.  It was a great program- Thanks, Patty!

February 2017 Meeting Review

The terrible storms that struck Ottawa and other areas of Central Illinois were on our minds during our meeting, especially because member and speaker Vickie Alsene’s home is in Ottawa. Our thoughts continue to be with those affected by the tornadoes.

On a more positive note, there was plenty of Modern Quilting action going on! Ann G announced that 33 members and one guest were at the meeting.  Before the meeting began, the slide show had pictures of all of the charity quilts submitted by MQG member guilds that were on display at QuiltCon 2017. Having only returned the day before, President Kathy Cook was excited to share those quilts.  Our quilt will be returned to us and later we will decide as a guild which charity will get our quilt. Watch for more info about that.
