June Meeting Recap
Submitted by Anne U., Secretary
June’s meeting was held at the Methodist Church in downtown Bloomington. Five guests from Champaign and 40 members were present. Kathy Cook welcomed everyone and thanked Celeste, Nancy, Carol and Lisa for the picnic-themed refreshments. Hospitality Chair Lee Anne Fritz asked for volunteers to bring refreshments for future meetings. Contact her if you are willing to help.
Kathy then introduced our presenter, Patty Young, author, fabric designer for Riley Blake, and owner of ModKids. Patty talked about the trends she saw at this year’s spring quilt market, a trade show open to shop owners for all things quilt-related. The trends she noted this year were rainbow and animals. She showed pictures from market that showed these trends, and shared pics of several of her new fabric lines for Riley Blake. Attendees also had a chance to shop her patterns and some fabrics she brought. It was a great program- Thanks, Patty!
After the program, winners were announced. Julie Durden won the Fabric Raffle, and the Door Prize was won by Peggy Richiger. The door prize question was about fabric: When you find a fabric you absolutely love, how much do you buy? A few buy a fat quarter, a few more a half yard, most who answered buy either one yard or 2-3 yards! No one would admit they bought the whole bolt, but I wonder…… 😉
The Block Lotto this month was won by Kathy Cook.
Announcements: Kathy reminded that the new guild year starts in September. That meeting will feature a “maker fair” of any members that make and sell or offer services related to quilting. Watch for further information! The BNMQG Retreat sign-ups are continuing, and food sign-ups are now open.
The nominating committee is still seeking a Secretary for next year, as Ann Unes has to step down due to family commitments. (Author’s Note: It’s not a bad job at all!! I just can’t make all the meetings in Bloomington coming from Peoria due to my parent’s declining health. Too many unexpected issues!)
Block Lotto for July is an arrow block. Very striking! Click here for instructions.
