Hello Modern Quilters

Our next meeting will be at the church on Tuesday, June 25th.  It will be a Salad/Dessert Potluck.

***IF your last name begins with A – H bring a salad, I – Z bring a dessert. ***

We will also be making postcards to exchange with the Boulder Colorado Modern Quilt Guild.  If you would like to participate, please bring a pieced postcard sized quilt (4” x 6”).  We will be building the rest of the postcard during the meeting.  We will need several sewing machines that can zigzag for the final steps.  IF you would like to volunteer to bring a machine, please let Kathy M. know. The guild will be providing the finishing materials. Continue reading

May 2019 Meeting Recap

submitted by Teresa A., secretary

The May meeting of the Bloomington-Normal Modern Quilt Guild was led by our co-president, Kathy M. and was called to order at 6:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Normal.

Treats were provided by Barb S., Marilyn B. and Kathleen S.  Thank you for the delicious treats!  Our new social time arrangement is for members to bring their own drink, minimizing the need for beverages and plastic cups to be provided by monthly snack providers.

We welcomed three guests tonight with two of our guests joining giving us a membership attendance of 43.

Announcements

Kona Color of the Year Mini-Quilt Challenge.

We have 42 people signed up to participate this year!  Your mini-quilt will need to be submitted at our July 19th meeting.  If you are unable to attend at that time, you are welcome to bring it to the June meeting.  The quilts will be on display at Scout’s Downtown Cafe (formerly Kelly’s Bakery) in downtown Bloomington for the month of August.  For more information, see the link on the blog and also on the guild’s Facebook page. There will be information forms for your mini-quilt available on the blog.  (Also, The Sewing Studio in Hudson now has two bolts of the Kona Color of the Year – Splash in stock if you are needing some to complete your quilt.)

Postcard Exchange

submitted by Kathy M., co-president
We will build our cards at the June meeting to swap with the Boulder, Colorado Modern Quilt Guild.
If you wish to participate, please bring a completed 4×6 inch mini quilt top.  The following tutorial was created by the Colorado guild for their members:
You only need to complete steps 1 and then cut a lightweight fusible interfacing and fuse to back of the mini quilt top.
Skip to step #4 and quilt it using any type of modern quilting style.
The remainder of the steps will be completed at our June 25th meeting, with the guild providing the card stock and fusible web.
I can’t wait to see all the different Post Cards!
