September 2019 Meeting Recap

Attendance:  42 members, 6 new members, and 4 guests

This month’s meeting began with an icebreaker for members and guests to encourage people to meet each other and learn more about BNMQG.   Icebreaker sheets were to be kept by people as a reference for people.  An extra 10 minutes was given as people were very involved.  The business meeting began at 6:10.  Nancy P. started the meeting with her vision for the guild: “to support and encourage the growth and development of modern quilting through education, art, and community.”

Outgoing officers were recognized for their service and given a small token of appreciation for their dedication to the guild – Stormy H. and Kathy M. – co presidents in 2018-2019;  Cathie H. – vice president 2018-2019 who will now be the MQG guild liaison; and Teresa Arendell – secretary 2017 – 2019.

New officers were introduced:  Kathy Cook – vice president (not present), Betty Woodruff – treasurer, and Gale Imig – secretary (not present).

IMPORTANT September 2019 Meeting Reminder

Hi Modern Quilters,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 year of the Bloomington-Normal Modern Quilt Guild.  There are many activities, speakers, and fun planned for this year.  But before we close the book on 2018-2019, I want to take a minute to thank our Co-presidents Kathy Merrick and Stormy Helton and our Vice President Cathie Haab for their service for the past year and our Secretary Teresa Arendell for her service to the guild for the past two years.  Your leadership, time, and ideas are greatly appreciated and have strengthened our guild.  I am excited to welcome Kathy Cook as our Vice President, our Social Media chair – Betty Woodruff is moving into the Treasurer position, and Gale Imig is taking on the Secretarial duties.  As your president, I will work hard and do my best to bring fresh modern quilting ideas to BNMQG.

August 2019 Meeting Recap

The August meeting of the Bloomington-Normal Modern Quilt Guild was led by our co-president, Stormy H. and was called to order at 6:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Normal.

Our treats were provided by our hostesses this month, Noemi B., Cindy R., and Nancy H.   Thank you, ladies!

We had two guests and one new member giving us a total of forty-five (45) members tonight.

Announcements

We had twenty-six (26) members participate in our mini-quilt challenge and we’ve been getting fabulous responses to our display at Scout’s Downtown Café in Bloomington this month.  If you haven’t made it there yet be sure to get there before closing time on Saturday, August 31st.  Cathie H. shared some pictures of the display.

We are needing some helpers to take down the display on Saturday, August 31st.  Stormy H. will be there around closing time to begin the takedown.  If you can help, please contact Stormy H.

T-Shirt Sales – Lori L. was taking orders for the guild t-shirts.  This is a fundraiser for the guild to help with the costs for our charity quilts.

The T-shirts are running small and are a ladies’ cut.  The cost is $18 for sizes Small – X-large.  Larger sizes will cost $2.00 & $3.00 more. If you are interested and were unable to attend please contact Lori L. for more information.

July 2019 Meeting Recap

The July meeting of the Bloomington-Normal Modern Quilt Guild was led by our co-president, Kathy M. and was called to order at 6:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Normal.

Our treats were provided by our hostesses this month, Celeste T., Stormy H., and Donna L.  Thank you, ladies!

There was a total of thirty-eight (38) members in attendance tonight with one guest. We did not have any new members tonight.

Announcements

We were saddened to hear of the passing of our guild member, Fern H. from Ohio.  She was in a vehicle accident earlier in the month.  Please keep Fern’s family in your thoughts and prayers.

The Treasurer’s report through May 2019 is on our Blog in the Members Section.  There will be quarterly postings going forward.

Nancy P. shared about the positive feedback that was received during the mini-class at the “How-To Festival” held on Saturday, July 6th at the Bloomington Public Library.  Betty W. and Nancy P. had set up a mini-class on quilting a mug rug.
