Kona Color Challenge Quilts

Guidelines and deadlines for the 2024 Kona Challenge Quilts are here!

There will be a link to a signup genius to signup for the challenge on this page soon.
$2 due at the March meeting to get your free challenge label.  

  • Feature the Kona Color of the Year 2024: Julep
  • Use Julep in your ORIGINAL design – a lot or a little – somewhere on front of your Mini Quilt
  • Finished size–20” X 20”  
  • Finish your Mini Quilt with binding or facing  (hint: cut your quilted piece to 20″ x 20″ if you plan to bind it or 20 1/2″ x 20 1/2″ if you plan to face it)
  • Use at least one of the Modern Quilt Elements in design
    • Negative Space
    • Asymmetry
    • Improv
    • Alternate Grid
    • Minimalism
    • Modern Traditionalism
    • Scale-enlarged or reduced
  • The quilting should enhance the modern design.
  • Attach a 4″ sleeve to the back of your finished quilt.  (These directions are available on the member page of the website.)
  • Get your special BNMQG Kona Challenge label at the March meeting, use a pigma pen to fill in the information, and sew/fuse it on the back of your quilt.

Your completed Kona mini is due by April 14 in order to be shown in the Modern Quilt Showcase at the Hands All Around Quilt Show on April 19-20.  There will be additional opportunities to have your quilts shown including the Mattoon Arts Council Outdoor Quilt Show in June and other shows to be determined!  Stay tuned.  Finished quilts should be delivered to Nancy Powell at the March meeting or delivered to her by the April deadline.
