Apologies from the webmaster for such a delay in posting!

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm by president Noemi B. First we took a group picture of all in attendance, then began the Potluck dinner. Attendees brought food according to their last names: Appetizers, Pasta Salads, Vegetable Salads, Fruit, Bread and Crackers and Desserts, and the guild provided chicken strips from Jewel/Osco.

BREAK- Members attending in person were encouraged to participate in the survey, vote on Upcycle Challenge entries, pay membership for 26-27 and Retreat balance.

After the break, Noemi thanked Donna P and Stormy H for co-chairing the Hospitality Committee this year, and thanked all the volunteers who brought snacks:

Committee Updates:

Programs: Noemi B. began the evening’s program by calling up the recipients of their 10-year pins. For 2026, they are: Ary A., Lisa B., Carol B., Mary Rose H. and Nancy P. The group posed for a picture.

Noemi noted that the very first meeting of BNMQG was held August 27, 2012.

Then the winners of the Upcycle Challenge were announced:

Upcoming programs were shared. On Sept 22, former member Julius Rempe-Night will give a lecture and trunk show. He is offering a special rate on his online class on Design Your Own FPP Patterns, which he will teach in person on Sept 25th. The price is $160, down from the usual rate of $250.

Then on Sat, Sept 26, Julius will teach a workshop on his FPP Project Scrappy Star and it includes a bonus design of a sweatshirt reverse-applique project.. This workshop will be held at the Sewing Studio in Hudson, due to a scheduling conflict with the church.

The October program will be announced at a later date.

On November 24th, we will have a Zoom only meeting featuring Julie Reuben, a hand quilter who has had many quilts in QuiltCon, whose lecture is “Confessions of a Thread-Centric Quilter.” To learn more about Julie, click here for her website.

The January, February and March programs are still to be booked. Nancy noted that there is difficulty getting modern speakers in those months because QuiltCon doesn’t allow them to teach on their topics for 60 days before or after those dates, making it difficult to find a teacher.

Community Outreach:

Nicole M had asked for the HeartBeat quilts to be turned in at this meeting. She also collected the ornaments from members who took them home to make last month. These are for the Baby Fold’s Festival of Trees entry. The committee is looking for a 4 ft pre-lit tree to decorate.

The QuiltCon Community Outreach Quilt top is completed and is being quilted by Tonya K. The Quilting Bees for BNMQG’S Community Outreach Committee have been renamed “The Giving Bees.” If there is more interest, we can always form another bee.

Sew Days: The Sew Day for September has been cancelled due to the workshop with Julius Rempe-Night on Sept 26th. The October Sew Day has been replaced by the BNQMG Retreat from Oct 9-12. The November 14 Sew Day has been changed from in-person to Zoom only, due a church function. We need a new chairperson to run the Sew Days for next year.

Sip N Sew: The next dates are Sept 15th, Oct 20th, Nov 17th and Dec 15th.

Exhibits: Nancy P reported that our Kona Nocturne Mini Quilts which are part of the Original Sewing and Quilt Expo will be in Fredericksburg, VA on Sept 24-26, Nashville-Lebanon, TN on Oct 1-3, Cincinnati-Sharonville, OH on Oct 15-17 and in Detroit-Novi, MI Nov 5-7, 2026.

Membership: Tonya K said we currently have 103 members. In-person attendance at this meeting is 49, and 7 attended on Zoom. She welcomed new member Laura Anne S.

Library: Due to the Upcycle Challenge display, the library was not available. Nicole will be the
Library Chairman for 2026-27.

Treasurer’s Report: Erin H stated the report is on the members-only section of the website.

Fall Retreat: Ann U, Lisa B, Nancy P and Noemi B, chairs, said there are still spots and committee slots open- sign up on Sign-Up Genius link on the members only section of the website.

QuiltCon Atlanta Feb 25-28, 2027. The schedule is available on the website and registration is open. Quilt Submissions (including Challenge Quilts) are open Sept 1- October 31. Quilt Challenges for 2027 include the Community Outreach Quilts with a Half-Square Triangle requirement, the American Patchwork & Quilting “Pick a Color Scrappy Challenge, and the Windham Fabrics Handloom Challenge. Info on all of these are on the MQG/QuiltCon website.

Prize Drawings: The Member Survey question was regarding creating Upcycling projects, Clothing, Quilts, Accessories, Home Decor, or Miscellaneous. The winner of the drawing was Tonya K.

The 50/50 drawing winner of $10 was Sandy W.

Show and Tell: Many members showed projects including Kristi G, Ann U, Melissa K, Kathy C, Tonya K, Paula M, Laurel B and Martha A and Mary Y.
