National Quilting Day

Hello Modern Quilters!

In honor of National Quilting Day, our guild held its first Service Project for 2016.  And guess what?!? It was a HUGE success!  We had 9 people come out to Kathy’s beautiful home and jump right into cutting, sewing, ironing and planning on our design walls. Several people brought delicious treats to keep us energized as we worked and by the end of the day, we ended up with over 175 quilt blocks!

Also during the course of the day, we were able to secure our first place to donate the finished quilts to…Advocate Bromenn Medical Center’s special care nursery.  The quilts will be used for babies who need to spend time away from their parents in the nursery, sometimes in an isolette.  The quilts can be draped over the isolettes to help block out lights and sounds, keeping unwanted stimulations to a minimum.  Parents will be given that quilt to take home at discharge to use for snuggling and playtime.  We brainstormed several other charities to contact as well to see if we can be of service to them.

Our next Service Project Sew-In day is already planned for April 16 from 9am-3pm.  It will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Normal, IL in our usual meeting room.  We will be making more blocks, sewing quilt tops together and of course having a good time!  So mark your calendars and meet us out there!
