Attendance:  42 members, 6 new members, and 4 guests

This month’s meeting began with an icebreaker for members and guests to encourage people to meet each other and learn more about BNMQG.   Icebreaker sheets were to be kept by people as a reference for people.  An extra 10 minutes was given as people were very involved.  The business meeting began at 6:10.  Nancy P. started the meeting with her vision for the guild: “to support and encourage the growth and development of modern quilting through education, art, and community.”

Treats were provided by Julie D. and Teresa A.  Thank you for the delicious treats!  Our new social time arrangement is for members to bring their own drink, minimizing the need for beverages and plastic cups to be provided by monthly snack providers.

We welcomed 1 new member for a total of 39 members in attendance and three guests.

April 2019 Meeting Reminder

Modern Quilters,

I thought we were beyond the snow, but apparently not. No matter, because by our April 23rd meeting, we will be well on our way to nice Spring weather.

Several reminders:

Blocks for the Alabama Storm victims are due. Such a fun easy block, that when put into a quilt will bring comfort to those affected by the horrific storm. It’s not too late
to make a block or two. Instructions are here.

April will be your last chance to purchase raffle tickets to win a portable design wall. Retail price for the Design Wall is $90. Betty Woodruff is handling this for the guild. Tickets are $5. See Betty at the meeting if you are interested. A winner will be drawn at the April Meeting.

Hello Modern Quilters,

Is Modern Traditional one of the types of modern quilting you’d like to know more about?  The Modern Quilt Guild has a webinar about that very topic!

At our next  meeting, Tuesday, November 28, we’ll be viewing  Making Traditional Modern by Shannon Page.  This webinar does a great job of both explaining and giving you great ideas for modern traditionalism.

Also, don’t forget that our pouch swap is this month.  It’s not too late to make a pouch and participate.

And finally, a reminder that this month we are made blocks for Las Vegas instead of block lotto, and you have the opportunity to bring a modern fat quarter to send to victims of the wildfires that lost their stash.  We have a generous guild!

Meet us at Christ Lutheran Church, 311 N Hershey, Normal IL.

Social time starts at 5:30 and the meeting will begin at 6.

Can’t wait to see you!

June Meeting Recap

Submitted by Anne U., Secretary

June’s meeting was held at the Methodist Church  in downtown Bloomington.  Five guests from Champaign and 40 members were present.  Kathy Cook welcomed everyone and thanked  Celeste, Nancy, Carol and Lisa for the picnic-themed refreshments.  Hospitality Chair Lee Anne Fritz asked for volunteers to bring refreshments for future meetings.  Contact her if you are willing to help.

Kathy then introduced our presenter, Patty Young, author, fabric designer for Riley Blake, and owner of ModKids. Patty talked about the trends she saw at this year’s spring quilt market, a trade show open to shop owners for all things quilt-related.  The trends she noted this year were rainbow and animals.  She showed pictures from market that showed these trends, and shared pics of several of her new fabric lines for Riley Blake.  Attendees also had a chance to shop her patterns and some fabrics she brought.  It was a great program- Thanks, Patty!
