Treats were provided by Ary A., Barb B., and Danna B. Thank you for the delicious treats! Our new social time arrangement is for members to bring their own drink, minimizing the need for beverages and plastic cups to be provided by monthly snack providers.

We had a Retreat project show and tell. So everyone could see the variety of projects worked on by some of the people who attended the retreat. Next Stormy asked for some input on future retreats, such as locations and number of retreats which should be held per year. The retreat for next year is already set for October 11 – 14th at Camp CILCA in Cantrall, IL. So start thinking about attending. Sign up will be in early spring.
Tiny Heart Update – October 2018
submitted by Nancy P, treasurer and charity quilt designer
Thanks Modern Quilters for your tiny hearts. Here is what you’ve made so far:

Please drop off the hearts that you have finished any scraps of fabric (remember we’re tiny piecing) at the church on November 13 between 9 am and noon. If you want to help with the quilt or make more hearts, the our meeting room at the church is ours until 2 pm on November 13 and we’d love to have you there to help.
We have almost 300 hearts but we still need more. If you’ve taken a packet of hearts, please finish them- I know you can finish them after tonight’s Paper Piecing clinic at guild tonight. If you can’t finish them, PLEASE pass them on to someone who can. I’ve passed out enough little packets that when they are completed we should have over 700 hearts and we need all of them.
You can download the heart PDF if you need more paper piecing sheets here
The colors of KONA cotton that we are using (in case you have scraps at home) are shown in the picture.
If you need more fabric, contact Nancy Powell (contact info on members only page) and she will make sure you get some.
THANK YOU….THANK YOU…. THANK YOU…. THANK YOU….
September 2018 Meeting Recap
Submitted by Julie D., Secretary Pro-Tem
The September meeting of the Bloomington-Normal Modern Quilt Guild was led by our new Executive Board co-president, Kathy M., and was called to order at 6:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Normal. Kathy introduced her “other half” of the co-president team, Stormy H. A quick announcement was made about a new procedure for locking the doors at 6:00 p.m. for security purposes, at the request of Christ Lutheran. A sign will be hung on the door at each meeting with a phone number to call/text for anyone arriving late and needing to be admitted.
Treats were provided by Leslie S., Donna P., and Kathy C. Our new social time arrangement is for members to bring their own drink, minimizing the need for beverages and plastic cups to be provided by monthly snack providers.
We welcomed 44 members and 1 new member, for a total of 45 members in attendance! A reminder was announced that the “Members” section of the website (password needed) has all personal contact information for members of the guild. Nancy P. also announced that on the members only page website, a downloadable reimbursement form is available for completing and turning in (attach receipts to the back of the form) to her as treasurer.
2019 Quiltcon Charity Quilt

It has been brought to my attention that you might need another strip of background fabric to complete your hearts. Feel free to contact me – Nancy Powell (phone and email are in the member directory in the members area of this website). If you happen to have scraps of these Kona solids, I have given you the names of the Kona colors that we are using in our quilt.
- Reduce your stitch length to 1-1.5 but NO BIGGER. The smaller the stitch, the easier it is to remove the paper in the end.
- I find it easier to fold the pattern on all of the sewing lines before beginning to sew my fabric. You can also fold on the lines as you go. Whatever works for you.
- Please use a ¼ “ seam – an “add a quarter” ruler is very helpful with paper piecing, especially when these pieces are so small.
- Your block should measure 1.5” square when you finish trimming it. That will make sure that the final heart block will measure 1”.
Here’s a great refresher video on Paper Piecing:

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your help making a gazillion tiny hearts!!! -Nancy
