Hi Modern Quilters,
Welcome to FALL as it adds a brand new color palette to the world around us. Do you have a favorite color palette? A palette of color adds the WOW to a quilt. It sets the mood and tone of your quilt. This is even more exciting when choosing your own colors for your own quilt. It’s especially fun when designing and creating a Temperature Quilt as you will find out this month with the presentation at our October meeting. It’s going to be a HOT presentation even if it’s cold outside!
This month we welcome our own Kathy Cook who will explain Temperature Quilts! Come and find out what that is, where to get information to make your own, and be inspired to be creative. There will be a special exhibit of Temperature Quilts at QuiltCon 2022. I know I’m looking forward to learning more about Kathy’s quilt and many other, very different Temperature Quilts. It might even add a little science into the mix??? So be COOL, come to the Zoom meeting and invite a friend or two. This event is FREE to BNMQG members. Guests are welcome to join us for $5.50. Find guest tickets on our website – BNMQG.org .
The travel isn’t long. The weather isn’t a problem. ZOOM is really easy (just ask anyone who has attended our meeting via zoom). Lisa B. does an amazing job of running the behind-the-scenes stuff. AND if you still haven’t joined us for a meeting via zoom and you’re still intimidated by the technology, email me. We can have a private zoom (it probably would only take 10-15 minutes) in the days before the meeting so you can see how easy it is. We want all of our members to be able to attend our meetings and it’s so much fun to see each other’s gorgeous faces.
BNMQG Sew Day
BNMQG sew day on October 10 was a success. We had fun getting to know each other a little more and better yet, everyone got some sewing done!
Heart Beat quilts – Pick up a quilt kit now!
We still have quilt kits to pick up. Hospitals have put a hold on taking any quilts at this time…but Pat Silva hasn’t quit working. She has 30 quilt kits put together so that when the hospitals start needing them again, we’ll have some ready to give them. Please consider picking up a quilt kit – blocks are made, backing, batting and binding are included. They don’t take much time to put together and if you don’t like the quilting part, I’m sure someone else would quilt if you will put the blocks together into a top.
Please call or text one of these three people to make arrangements to pick up a kit to finish:

Yes… we’re having a December Zoom Party and a Holiday Swap!
You don’t want to miss this special social event – our first (and maybe our only) December meeting. Since we’re probably not planning a big celebration this year and we’ll be missing family, let’s plan to get our quilting family together to make the holidays a little more festive. Wouldn’t it be fun to use some scraps and make a small little project – say a PINCUSHION? I think so. So, sign up to make a pretty pincushion to swap. They don’t have to take a lot of time and can be made with only scraps. There are no restrictions on shape or size. You are making something YOU love and then you will share it with a friend. You won’t know who your partner is until an email arrives in early December. Then, you’ll be able to arrange a place to exchange your “wrapped gifts” or do a drive by or porch pickup or put it in the mail.
To join,
- Sign up for the swap
- Make your pincushion
- Wrap up your pincushion
- Look for an email with your swap partner’s name.
- Arrange for the exchange (Member emails/addresses/phone numbers are in the member area of our website)
- Join the Holiday meeting on Zoom – December 22 at 6pm. A zoom invite will arrive a day or two before the meeting.
- Bring your wrapped present to the Holiday Zoom. We’ll unwrap them together and share some fun. There just might be some surprises at this meeting!
We’re going to roll for the third installment of the Take a Chance Challenge this month. The time commitment can be small to participate in this challenge BUT the reward is BIG.
Congratulations to Carol Lou Eisenhart who won a extra entry into the Grand Prize Drawing at our September meeting!
The roll for the October project is:
Yellow and you have your choice of shape this month.
Upload your entry by 2pm on October 27 and view the other entries on our Shutterfly Challenge page.
Tech Tuesdays
There is a NEW Tech Tuesday opportunity scheduled for November 10. Signup for the Designing T-Shirt Quilts with EQ (Electric Quilt) software presentation with our own EQ expert Carole F. Classes last about 45 minutes via zoom and one is presented at 11 AM and one at 6 PM.
We are looking for more topics for Tech Tuesdays – anything tech related. Want to suggest a topic or have something you can share with us? Want some more information on Electric Quilt? Please let me know.
Membership —– It’s time to renew your membership to BNMQG.
I hope that you think your dues are being well spent and that you are valuing the programs that we’re providing. This year has been a challenging one. Your membership provides you with a membership to our guild (BNMQG), The Modern Quilt Guild (MQG), potential QuiltCon discounts, monthly programs and newsletters, workshop opportunities, and maybe best of all, a “place” to share your love of quilting with other modern quilters.
Your BNMQG membership runs from September 2020 through August 2021 and this year you have an option of how you would like to pay your dues. Renewals for 2020-2021 can be made via Paypal (see the sidebar on the right) for $36.50 (which includes paypal’s fees) or you can print the membership form in the “About” or “Member” tab on the website (https://bnmqg.org/about/) and mail a check for $35 with your payment. The address is on the form.
FYI: If you haven’t renewed your dues by October 31, you will lose access to the member area of the website and the BNMQG group on Facebook. Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy all of the benefits of being a BNMQG member.

The Quiltcon Together quilt submission process opens on September 1st. We hope you will submit the quilts you’re working on! The process is a little different this year and we hope you’ll find it easier than in the past. You won’t have to send in your quilt to become part of the show. Since the quilt show will be virtual, you are asked for a series of 5 photos described on the website and entry form. This will help the judges and attendees fully appreciate each quilt!
MQG staff member Colleen Molen hosted a webinar available in the member resources section of the MQG website which is full of helpful photography tips. Takea look at it. - There are some great recorded webinars to watch and new ones to sign up for in the MQG Resources. Check them out at https://mqg.memberclicks.net/events
- Consider joining the MQG Modern Classics Challenge from MQG. Using their special color palette and a quilt pattern that was previously released as Quilt of the Month patterns, make the quilt. https://www.themodernquiltguild.com/mqg-modern-classics?mc_cid=128ecf3eb4&mc_eid=13d4aae610 In my opinion, the color palette is actually quite nice!
