December 2019 Newsletter

submitted by Nancy P., President

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year!

I hope you enjoyed Laura Hartrich as much as I did at our November meeting.  Want to learn more about Laura and Quilt Stories?  Check out her website.

Now that the holidays are upon us, you’re probably ready to take some time and enjoy your family and friends.  My guess is that there will be a ton of handmade goodies being enjoyed this holiday season.

BNMQG Swap: Ready Set SWAP!  Now that you’ve met your Swap partner, take some time to get to know them and be inspired by their fat quarter.  Communicate in person, by phone, or by email. Get to know your Swap buddy by sharing design and color ideas to complement your chosen fat quarter. Completed products will be exchanged in February 2020.  Contact Pat Messinger if you have any questions – contact details on Members page.

Membership:  We have 70 members including 12 new members this year.  Contact information for guild members is available on the blog in the Member only area.

Heart Beat Sit and Sew: Thanks to Pat Silva for a very successful Sit and Sew.  With all of the help (18 people participated), BNMQG is on track to reach our goal of 30 quilts for babies in the NICU.  Another Sit and Sew is being planned for 2020 so keep your ears open and your sewing machines ready to go!  Design night will be during our March meeting.

Modern Mini Showcase:  BNMQG is getting
ready to have our own traveling Modern Mini Showcase.  Please consider loaning us your mini quilts for some upcoming shows – your tiger lily, splash, other 20” square modern minis, and the 2020 Kona Color challenge quilts.  (PS – Kona is going to announce the color of the year this Friday, December 20!) They will get some new audiences!  We will need your quilts no later than our February meeting.  Bring them to the January meeting or the February meeting.  Give them to Kathy Cook or Nancy Powell.  More information will be available soon.

Check the Tip of the Month for December – TNT – troubleshooting tips for your sewing machine!

QuiltCon: Did you enter a quilt into QuiltCon?  Let us know if it got accepted for the show so we don’t miss it!  Kathy Cook had 3 quilts accepted to this year’s show!  Congratulations Kathy!

Enjoy her quilts and look for them in Austin!

Volunteer at QuiltCon 2020 Volunteering is a great way to fully experience QuiltCon, meet new people, and have fun!  Whether you have 2 hours or 20 to pitch in, we would love your help!
