The June meeting of the Bloomington-Normal Modern Quilt Guild was led by our co-president, Stormy H. and was called to order at 6:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Normal.
This month was our potluck dinner. We all enjoyed many delicious salads and desserts. The paper products were provided by our snack volunteers for June – Mary Rose H., Kris Z., and Becky B. If you have any ideas or suggestions for any future potluck meetings, please pass those along to any of the Executive Board Members.
There was a total of forty-six (46) members in attendance tonight with no guests or new members added.
We have 44 people signed up to participate this year! Your mini-quilt will need to be submitted at our July 19th meeting. If you are unable to attend at that time, you will need to contact someone on the Executive Board to make arrangements for the guild to receive your mini-quilt in time to get it displayed. The mini-quilts will be on display at Scout’s Bakery (formerly known as Kelly’s Bakery) in downtown Bloomington for the month of August. For more information, click here and also on the guild’s Facebook page. (Also, The Sewing Studio in Hudson now has two bolts of the Kona Color of the Year – Splash in stock if you are needing some to complete your quilt.)
Modern Round Robin
Participants made their trades with the next person in their group. We are all looking forward to seeing everyone’s final top in August. At our August meeting we will be looking to hear feedback from those who participated in this year’s Modern Round Robin.
Sue K. presented the block lotto block tonight. This month’s block uses at least one graphic 4 ½ inch square which was passed out at the meeting and any solid color. Please see the detailed instructions on the block lotto page.
We had twenty-five (25) blocks turned in this month so there were two winners – Congratulations to our Block Winners – Ann U. and Barb B!

Kathy M. shared there are only six (6) spots left for our fall retreat – October 11th – 14th. The retreat will again be held at Camp Cilca.. This year there will be a $25.00 non-refundable deposit to hold your spot with the final payment due by the August meeting. This is an option if you prefer not to pay the full amount at sign up time. There will be more information coming about the retreat such as signing up to help contribute to one of the meals during the weekend.
We had twelve (12) completed quilts delivered to Advocate BroMenn this past week and we have nine (9) more ready to be delivered. All Heartbeat Quilts must be returned to Nancy H. by the July meeting.
2020 Quilt Con Charity Quilt
Cindy R. volunteered to coordinate our QuiltCon 2020 Charity Quilt. Thank you, Cindy!
The theme is “Text” for the quilts. The color palette is monochromatic – white, varying shades of gray and black. We are still looking for a possible place to donate this quilt. So, if you know of a place to which to donate the finished quilt, please let any of the Executive Board members know. Also, if you interested in being a part of the committee, contact Cindy R.
The Executive Board would like to fill the position for Heartbeat Quilts prior to the new fiscal year which begins, September 1, 2019. During the meeting tonight, Sue C. volunteered to do Membership and Cindy R. to do Block Lotto. Thank you, Sue and Cindy! If you are interested in becoming a more active member, please see or contact an Executive Board member. Please also remember: This is your guild and volunteering is an opportunity to help move the guild forward. “It takes a village!”

The meeting adjourned after the program.
There is a new password to the guild blog. There was an email sent to all guild members with the new password. IF you did not receive an email, please contact one of the executive board members. Under the Members section there is the 2017/18 final expenses and the 2018/19 budget information.
On the general website, a downloadable reimbursement form is available for completing and turning in (attach receipts to the back of the form) to Nancy P., our treasurer.
In case you were unaware, our guild has a library. For $5 you can check out a book till the next guild meeting. There are several great selections to choose from, so take a moment at the next meeting and check out the selections. If you any questions, please contact Carol B.
Our new social time arrangement is for members to bring their own drink, minimizing the need for beverages and plastic cups to be provided by monthly snack providers.
Also, the church will be having a craft sale in November so be thinking of things you might be able to make to donate to their craft sale as a way to thank them for allowing us to use their amazing facility every month!
