The Modern Quilt Guild sent out an email today, August 15th, around 2pm CDT for your link to register for QuiltCon. Please verify tonight that you can log into MQG, so that you don’t have any issues in the morning. Quilt Con will be Feb. 23-26 in Atlanta, Georgia.  Registration starts at 9am CDT tomorrow, August 16th.  If you register by November 30, registration is free as a BNMQG guild member. You will need your MQG login and password – please test tonight! To get to registration, you will need to use the link in the email. It is a customized link just for you and you need YOUR link. Workshops sometimes sell out in the first few minutes after the site opens, so if you are interested in a workshop, plan on logging in at 9am (or before) TUESDAY, August 16th. Have the class number, name, and instructor handy BEFORE you go to registration. The complete catalog is online.

The July meeting was called to order by Vice President, Nancy P. at 6:00PM CDT.  The meeting was held at the Christ Lutheran Church and via Zoom.  There were 45 members in person, 3 guests, and 1 new member with 22 attending via Zoom.

Refreshments were provided by Carol B., Mary Rose, and Ann U.

The speaker was our own Kathy Cook whose presentation was entitled Big Stitch Quilting.  She spoke on the origins, uses, supplies, techniques and her practices with it. Kathy showed many slides of her quilts that include big stitch quilting as well as how she has used it on clothing. Kathy also brought many of her quilts for everyone to get a close up view of the stitching. Kathy offered to conduct a hands on workshop to help some members become more acquainted with it. As dates and times are determined, there will be a Sign Up Genius available. She will be offering a few different times for small groups of 10. We really appreciate Kathy sharing her expertise with the guild!

There were 6 anniversary improv log cabin quilt tops made. The 10th anniversary improv log cabin quilts will be donated to the Cancer Center. We would like to have these quilts completed before December.  There have been a total of 360 log cabin blocks turned in so far.

The Quilt Con Community Challenge Quilt that was designed by Kathy C. and Nancy P. was finished today by the members.  Betty W. has volunteered to quilt it. It will be auctioned for charity at Quilt Con in February.

Another free opportunity was suggested. 30 Days of Improv QAL started on Aug. 23 with 5 days a week for 30 days. What a wonderful way to explore different improv techniques.
