August 2018 Meeting Recap

submitted by Teresa A., Secretary

The Bloomington-Normal Modern Quilt Guilt met Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Christ Lutheran Church.  We had forty-nine (49) members, one (1) guest and four (4) new members in attendance.  Thanks to Kathy C. and Mary Rose H. for providing our refreshments for the evening.

Announcements:
President Kathy C. welcomed everyone to our August meeting. She announced from now on after 6:00 pm the doors to the church will be locked.  There will be a note on the door advising you of this with a phone number to text in order for you to gain access.

Happy 6th Birthday to our guild!  We celebrated our birthday and all members were given a birthday gift of a wooden needle minder.

President Kathy C. shared how to access the new MQG website and some of the resources available to all members.

She also shared about another great resource – “Curated Quilts” – a quarterly magazine.  Kathy showed us the website and explained you can subscribe or buy single issues printed or digitally.  She talked about how a challenge is given in each issue for the upcoming issue and thought some members might be interested in participating.

Nancy P. has designed a quilt for our guild to make for the QuiltCon 2019 Member Charity Challenge.  She told the members she will be having “kits” made next month for anyone wanting to help.  She did say it will be a quilt with small piecing.

Sue K. shared our next Block Lotto block.  Check out the information here.

President Kathy also announced the programs for September’s meeting.  We will be having a lecture and trunk show with Joanie Holton and Melanie Greseth. of Tailormade by Design.

Show and Tell – again we had some award winning quilts shared during our Show and Tell time!  Be sure and check out the beautiful quilts!

President Kathy C. and Vice-President Donna L. were presented with quilts with blocks made by members of the guild as a token of all their dedication and leadership for years of service to our guild. (pictures)

During half-time members were busy voting for next year’s officers, socializing and signing up for food for our upcoming retreat.  IF you were unable to attend the meeting and are signed up to go to the retreat, please contact Paula M. to get signed up to bring food.

Our Survey Question was “How often do you change the needle of your sewing machine?”

Door Prize winner was – Lori L.

Congratulations to Lisa and Lori!

  1. We have been very fortunate to have Taliormade by Design in the Peoria area for the past 6+ years. Sadly, Melanie is moving back to Minnesota In a few months. Melanie has also been a vendor at the GEMS show for several years. Her smile, her talent, and her presence in Peoria will be missed. Don’t miss this last chance to see them and hear their story at the September 25th meeting.
