The Bloomington-Normal Modern Quilt Guilt met on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Christ Lutheran Church. Forty-three (43) members were in attendance, and we welcomed three new members, Pam W., Faye Z. and Sue O. Our social refreshments were provided by Lisa F. and Kris Z. who provided us with lots of delicious snacks. President Kathy C. thanked the members who provided this month’s treats.
Kathy C. shared a book which was given to the guild from Studio Art Quilt Associates. It has pictures of quilts, some are from Quilt Con which was held in Pasadena, CA this year.
Thanks to everyone who came to our Sew Day held on Saturday, February 24th. Our next Sew day will be on Wednesday, March 21st at Bolines from 9 am – 3 pm. Come for all or part of the day.
Sign up for our Spring Workshop Day – April 21st at the church. We have two projects
this time – Donna L. will be leading us in making a work in progress bag and Nancy P. will be leading us in making notebook covers. If you didn’t get to sign up this month you still have time.
Kona Color of the Year Mini Quilt Challenge
Kathy C. communicated to the members what the top three concerns from our Mini Quilt Challenge break-out session last month. We will be covering these topics in the coming months. Before splitting into groups, Kathy shared a website from Craftsy on Modern Quilt Design: 7 Tips for Getting Started by Christa Watson. Tonight we worked on helping one another with designs by using graph paper, colored pencils and glue. We also had an opportunity to share with other members in our groups any ideas or inspirations for possible designs. Next month we will be covering quilting tips and in April we will go over facings and bindings.
And remember it’s not too late to sign up and participate in our challenge! The deadline for the mini quilt is our May 22nd meeting. Mini Quilt Guide Handout
Viv B. shared about the bus trip to the International Quilt Festival on April 12, 2018 organized by the GEMS of the Prairie Guild. The cost is $48. The bus will be stopping at the Schnucks in North Normal. For more information please email Viv B.
Cindy R. needs all the Heart Beat quilts returned even if they are not finished. She would like to get it wrapped up so we can start on this year’s design. Thanks for everyone’s generous donation of time.
Show and Tell tonight was full of beautiful works of art and even a few with some thought provoking designs.
After break, we announced our Fabric Raffle winner this month – Congratulations Marilyn B! She won a nice selection of polka-dot grunge fabric!
Our survey question tonight was a graph to determine where everyone’s Fear Factor is on working with curves. It appeared as though the majority were somewhere between 0 (no fear) and 5. Congratulations to the winner of the door prize – Karen G. She won a mini-quick curve ruler.
Block Lotto this month is using curves. Sue K shared the block lotto as part of our program tonight on curves. We had 14 blocks returned so we had two winners – Danna B. and Sue K. Congratulations!!
Our program this month was on curves. For about forty-five minutes we were able to stop at any of the following stations:
Donna L. – Classic Curves Ruler
Kathy C. – Improv Drunkard Path
Betty W. – Gentle Improv Curves
Nancy P. – Glue Basting Curves
Teresa A. – Quick Curve Ruler
Lisa B. – Accuquilt
On the members only page there are some of the link to the different tips/tutorials/websites for the different stations we had for our program tonight.
Things to remember
– Fall Retreat – October 5 – 8th. Sign-up will begin at our March meeting. We will be at the same place as last year in Sherman, IL.
– Guild Library. The Guild has ten (10) books which can be checked out by members. This is an awesome resource and all it requires is a $5 deposit at the time of checking out the book and it will be refunded if the book is brought back the following meeting. If not returned the month after borrowing, the deposit will be retained in the library account. See Carol B., who is the guild librarian if you would like to check out a book.
Our next meeting will be March 27th at the church. See you then!
