Bloomington-Normal Modern Quilt Guild

October 24, 2017 Meeting

Submitted by Julie D., Secretary Pro Tem

The Bloomington-Normal Modern Quilt Guilt met on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Christ Lutheran Church. Forty-six (46) members were in attendance, and we welcomed three (3) new members and two (2) guests. Our social half-hour refreshments were provided by Ann U. and Lori L. who served up a delicious cheese ball with crackers, crudités & dip, hot sausage meatballs, pumpkin spice bars and brownies, PLUS Halloween candy! President Kathy C. thanked the members who provided this month’s treats. Guests were also introduced.

Guild librarian, Carol B., announced that the guild now has ten (10) books which can be checked out by members. A $5 deposit is required, and it will be refunded if the book is brought back the following meeting. If not returned the month after borrowing, the deposit will be retained in the library account.

Cindy R. has taken over the coordination of the Heartbeat Quilt initiative. Fifteen (15) pieced tops, with batting and backing, are ready to be quilted, and Cindy asked for volunteers to complete them in a 2-month time frame.

Donna L. reminded members of the Pouch Swap. Many members have signed up, and Donna said to see her at the break if interested in completing a bag.

Requirements:

  • no larger than an 8 ½” x 11” piece of paper
  • no smaller than the same size of paper folded in half – 5” x 4 ½”
  • quilted
  • must include a zipper
  • use modern fabrics – brights or solids

Viv B. and Sue K. had seventy-nine (79) beautiful squares returned for this month’s Block Lotto raffle. Kathy C. announced that she had “interfered” in this month’s challenge to make a plea in response to the Las Vegas Modern Quilt Guild’s request for “white and bright” quilts to provide to victims and first responders of The Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting earlier in the month. Kathy C. had Kona “Snow” 2 ½” strips to provide to members who wanted to make a “Cluck, Cluck, Sew” block. Directions for block assembly can be found here. Kathy C. hopes we can provide a quilt with thirty (30) blocks to send on to the Las Vegas guild to distribute. She asked interested members to see her at the break to volunteer and get their 2 ½ ” strip.

Twenty-four members shared their wonderful projects at Show and Tell. Treasurer Nancy P. was kept busy taking pictures of the many beautiful quilts, and Donna L. ably served as the “extra hand” quilt-holder/displayer for each member.

After the break, winners for raffles were announced and survey responses tallied/reported.

The fabric raffle winner was Julie D.
