April 2017 Meeting Recap

Hello, Modern Quilters!  President Kathy Cook opened April’s meeting by thanking the Hospitality Committee Chair LeeAnne Fritz and volunteers Barb Haab and Barb Stevens for the yummy snacks.  Kathy also encouraged members to visit the Modern Quilt Guild website for new blocks, quilt pattern, and new episodes of  Fresh Quilting. There is a lot of information and inspiration available to all of us members!

Kathy also thanked Connie, Marilyn, Celeste, Joan, Teresa, Carol Lou, Ann G and Nancy P for Quilt Blocks.  These will be made into a quilt top and sent to a Newfoundland Senior Home whose residents recently lost everything in a fire.  The Home is across the street from modern quilt blogger Devoted Quilter. How kind of all of you to send some quilty love to these seniors.

February 2017 Meeting Review

The terrible storms that struck Ottawa and other areas of Central Illinois were on our minds during our meeting, especially because member and speaker Vickie Alsene’s home is in Ottawa. Our thoughts continue to be with those affected by the tornadoes.

On a more positive note, there was plenty of Modern Quilting action going on! Ann G announced that 33 members and one guest were at the meeting.  Before the meeting began, the slide show had pictures of all of the charity quilts submitted by MQG member guilds that were on display at QuiltCon 2017. Having only returned the day before, President Kathy Cook was excited to share those quilts.  Our quilt will be returned to us and later we will decide as a guild which charity will get our quilt. Watch for more info about that.

February 2017 Meeting Reminder

Hello Modern Quilters,

Interested in adding design elements to your modern fabrics? Vickie
Alsene will be showing us how at our February 28 meeting. We will be
experimenting with Derwent Inktense pencils and blocks and Shiva
paintsticks during the meeting. These are mostly non messy and can be
done with stencils, tracing designs, and free hand. Both are
permanent on most fiber contents and can be used to overdye existing
purchased fabrics with stamps and designs. Everything (including
fabric squares) will be provided for members to play and take home
whatever they create but you may bring additional fabrics or shirts to
work on.

Social time starts at 5:30 and the meeting will begin at 6 at our
regular meeting spot—Christ Lutheran Church, 311 N Hershey Normal, IL

Don’t miss the fun! Here’s what you need to bring!

BNMQG Shop Hop

Hello Modern Quilters!
I hope your holiday was fun and full of joy! Speaking of joy…are you ready for our shop hop? We are so fortunate to have four local quilt shops in town. Let’s get out there and support them! Here’s all the information from our Hospitality Chair Leanne Fritz.

The annual support your Local Quilt Shop Day is Saturday, January 28, 2017! Starting January 1 through Saturday, January 28, 2017, visit the 4 Bloomington/Normal quilt shops:

Boline’s

Peace and Applique Too

Sewing Studio

The Treadle  309 662 1733  2101 Eastland Drive  Bloomington

Each quilt shop will have punch cards to hand out to guild members, the card will be punched once for visiting their store and a second time if you buy something.

One punch for visiting = 1 entry/store

One punch for purchasing = 2 entries/store

If all 8 are punched, you’ll get 2 additional bonus entries in our drawing!!

Giveaways-The local quilt shops are donating prizes (and I promise, the prizes are something we all can use!!)  We very much appreciate their support and see this as a WIN/WIN!! There will also be door prizes just for coming to the social!

Social-To culminate the Support Your Local Quilt Shop Day/Month, we thought it would be fun to have a member social on Saturday afternoon, January 28.  The social will be held at Leanne Fritz’s home, 20151 Murray Hill Road, Bloomington from 2:00-4:00. Come and get to know your fellow members better!

Directions:  Towanda Barnes South, cross over Ireland Grove Road and the RR tracks, take Cheneys Grove Road east (road is just past RR tracks and a white farm house), travel 1 mile and turn right in to Dover Ridge subd. on Haley Way, take first left on to Murray Hill (our home is the 3rd on the right, counting the home on the corner)

Prizes will be drawn at the social…so if you can’t attend, please give your punch card to Leanne Fritz, Kathy Cook or a guild member who is attending so you can be entered in to the drawing!!  Need not be present to win but we’d love to have you at the social!!

Watch our FB page and your email for more details on  how to RSVP for the social.

Questions:  Please contact Leanne Fritz, Hospitality Chair at 309-825-9295     If you would like to bring an appetizer or a sweet treat, please let Leanne know when you RSVP.
