Signup for the challenge
$2 due at the March meeting to get your free challenge label.
- Use the Kona Color of the Year 2026: Wander
- Create a quilt that is designed by you – no patterns.
- Use the Kona Color in your ORIGINAL design – a lot or a little – somewhere on front of your Mini Quilt
- Finished size–20” X 20”
- Finish your Mini Quilt with binding or facing (NOTE: cut your quilted piece to 20″ x 20″ if you plan to bind it or 20 1/2″ x 20 1/2″ if you plan to face it)
- Use at least one of the Modern Quilt Elements in design
- Negative Space
- Asymmetry
- Improv
- Alternate Grid
- Minimalism
- Modern Traditionalism
- Scale-enlarged or reduced
- The quilting should enhance the modern design.
- Attach a 4″ sleeve to the back of your finished quilt. (Hanging sleeve directions)
- Get your special BNMQG Kona Challenge label at the April meeting, use a pigma pen to fill in the information, and sew/fuse it on the back of your quilt.
Your completed Kona mini is due April 28, 2026 in order to be shown in the Modern Quilt Showcase at the BNMQG meeting. However, if you want it considered for the March Library exhibit, I’ll need a photo and entry form (see the top of this page) by the beginning of February and you’ll have to work quickly! Other shows are to be determined! Stay tuned. Finished quilts should be delivered to Nancy P. at the April guild meeting. Check in begins at 5:30 pm.
