July meeting recap

Bloomington Normal Modern Quilt Guild met June 23, 2024 at Christ Lutheran Church with 53 members attending  in person,  12 members on zoom and 2 guests in attendance.

President Viv called the meeting to order and thanked the hospitality committee for the delicious treats tonight.

Outreach committee Nicole M. reminded members that the quilt show and program at the ISU Horticulture Center will be September 14 and 15.   The committee is in need of members wishing to help with the children’s activities.   Please sign up on this Sign Up Genius.

Vivian then reported on the registration for the Quilt Con to be held in February 2025.  Registration will be open to members on July 31, 2024.   Members are encouraged to register even if they are not going so they can attend a virtual class if they desire.  Registration can be done via Modern Quilt Guild website.   Anyone having trouble signing in should contact Betty W for assistance.

Theresa and Katie, Hospitality chairman, passed around a sign up sheet for members to bring treats the coming year.

The August meeting will be the annual anniversary celebration with this year being the 12th year of the guild  It will be a potluck and members should bring a dish to share – a suggestion by alphabet is below so that we don’t have all of one type of food.

  • A-B Vegetables/Veggie Salad
  • C-E Pasta Salad
  • F-K  Fruit or Fruit Salad
  • L-Q  Dessert
  • R-S  Bread or Crackers
  • T-Z  Appetizers

Vivian reviewed the list of candidates for the upcoming election.   They are:

  • President: Kelly C.
  • Vice President: Maria C.
  • Secretary Carol B.
  • Treasurer: Laurie S.
  • Member at Large: Pam T.
  • Member at Large: Jean B.

The election will be held at the August meeting.

Noemi reminded members that dues for the 24-25 guild year can now be paid. You can bring a membership form and a check to the August meeting or use the PayPal button on the sidebar – you still need to complete a membership form.  Also, anyone planning to attend the retreat must have their dues paid by the August meeting.

Following a short break, the members then divided into groups to participate in three make it and take it projects.  Nancy,  Teresa and Ann each headed up a specific project with the assistance of several helpers.     The three projects were:

A collage card,

A fabric basket

A felted bird.

Several members then showed various items at the Show and Tell portion of the meeting.   They included:

Sheila R. Block study blocks, Nicole M. Electric pineapple, Laurel 2 baby quilts, Maria C 2 baby quilts, potato chip quilt, cornerstone quilt, Sue W. 2023 temperature quilt, Melissa K. Looper quilt, Mary Y, Dresden reimagined, Jean B. Pastel quilt, Donna P. Batik quilt from fabric bought in Alaska, Sandy F Collage wall hanging completed at Seamless Getaways.

Members were reminded there is still an opening for the Sea Glass quilt workshop presented by Allie McCatheran on September 7 at 10:00 a.m.   This is a virtual workshop. Sign ups are available on our Events and Workshops page.

The survey question which was won by Melissa K. was “would you like to attend a No Frills retreat.   The response was 100% yes.
