The meeting was called to order at 6 pm by President Noemi B. The Program Committee introduced member Pam Tannura, who talked about “Fiber Arts to Design and Back.”
At the break, Noemi encouraged everyone to answer the survey question, sign up for workshops, visit the Library and/or renew their membership.
Noemi began the second half of the meeting thanking the Hospitality Committee and those who brought treats today: Stormy H, Rachel M, Barb V and Jamie W. The committee noted that there are still some open spots for those interested in signing up. There is also a sign up genius.
Committee Reports:
Webmaster– Lisa B reminded everyone the password for current BNMQG members will
change on November 1. If you are a paid member, you will get an email with the new
password. If your membership for 2025-26 is not paid, you will not get the password. The
members-only Facebook page will also be updated to include current members only.
Programs– Nancy P reported that the November/December meeting is on December 2 and
is Zoom only. Sheila Frampton Cooper will talk about Spontaneous Creation and Inspiration.
On December 6, she will present a Zoom-only workshop: “Appliqué + Piecing = New
Possibilities.” There are 2 spots available. Purchase a ticket to the workshop here.
The January Zoom-only meeting will feature Bernadette Kent of Wonderfil Threads talking about Enriching Your Quilts with Hand Embroidery and Embellishments. On Saturday, January 31, Bernadette will lead a Zoom-only workshop on hand embroidery entitled Larch Treescape. There is currently a waitlist. Thread kits were handed out, and Nancy urged people to put them in place they could find them, come January 31! She also reminded participants that they will need clear poly thread as well.
On February 24, modern quilter Charles Cameron, @FeltLike Sweets, will give a lecture on
color value and color placement in your quilts. Be sure to mark your calendars – this is going
to be a great program!
Membership– Tonya K tallied 37 member present in person and 8 on Zoom. She welcomed
three new members from out-of-state. She called for those interested in advertising on our
website to contact her to renew.
Treasurer– Erin reported that the Treasurer’s Report is on the Members-Only page.
Community Outreach– Nicole M updated us on HeartBeat quilts. Our goal this year is 35
quilts. It was decided to participate in the BabyFold Festival of Trees in fall 2026, and we will
prepare at a Christmas in July program next summer. Nicole is also looking into Bed Blitz for
next year as well, with more information to come.
Nancy P is still looking for entries for the Public Library display in March. Those wishing to
enter will find the entry form on the member page of the website.
Sew Days – Marilyn B said all dates for the 2025-26 year have been set. The last in-person
sew day this fall is November 8. December 13, January 10, February 14 and March 21 Sew
Days will be held via Zoom. In-Person (and Zoom) Sew Days will resume April 11, and also will
be held on May 9, June 13, July 11 and Aug 8. Please sign up for in person sew days here – this helps us to setup prior to your arrival – still ok to come even if not signed up!
The members discussed having a monthly evening Zoom session featuring sewing, beverages, and visiting.
Spring Retreat– The BNMQG Board is chairing this retreat on March 12-15, with the sign up Genius opening at 6 pm October 28. The cost is $75 cash or check, $79 on PayPal. A deposit
of $35 holds your place, will the balance due by the January meeting via mail or PayPal.
Exhibits– Nancy P said that the Kona Mini Quilt exhibit through Original Sewing and Quilting
Expo will be in Detroit-Novi, Michigan on November 6-8, 2025, in Atlanta-Duluth, Georgia on
March 12-14, 2026, and in Lakeland, Florida on March 19-21, 2026.
There will be an exhibit at the Bloomington Public Library in March 2026, with a reception to be held on March 7, from 1:30-3:30 pm.
MQG News – QuiltCon is February 19-22 in Raleigh, NC. Nancy will be reaching out to those
attending. Early bird registration ends Oct 31, and Quilt Entry also ends Oct 31. There were two
challenges this year: American Patchwork and Quilting Diamonds Challenge, Windham Artisan
Fabric Challenge, both of which need to be entered by Oct 31.
There is also an MQG Exhibit at the Athens, Ohio Dairy Barn now through December 7, 2025.
Survey Question– Questions asked were: Have you ever entered a quilt in a show? Would you
enter more shows if you had help doing so (help with pics or entry statement)? Laurie S won
the drawing.
Show and Tell– Leslie S, Laurel B, Michelle S, Lisa F and Sandra F shared quilts, and there
was also a slide show from the October retreat showing many finished projects.
