March Meeting Recap

Meeting was called to order at 6 p.m.on ZOOM and in person.

Maria C. opened the meeting with the word of the month “likeable.” She announced that raffle tickets would be distributed and that volunteers would be needed for additional sales at the Sewing Studio event on March 28/29. Sign-up Genius is available. Members were reminded that they should sign their name on the back of the tickets they sell. Carol B. announced that Chery A’s husband was in hospice. Attendance for the evening was 12 members on Zoom and 31 in person along with 3 guests who may be joining: Darlene, Lois S.., and Mollie B.

The program for this meeting was led by Leslie S. and Sally. At 6:08, scraps were brought out and instructions were given for making postcards. Members used glue and fabric to make friendly postcards, for a family member, friend, or to distribute to people in hospitals, retirement homes. A finish time was announced for 6:43 – 6:51 p.m. , followed by a break ending at 7:00. Snacks were provided by Tiffany B., Pat S., and Pam T.

Leslie S. announced the upcoming programs: April with Pam T. sharing information about a career in technology and how to get your work published. In May, Dana Jones, Colorado, Lecture Around the Block. In June, Vicki Alstene will lecture about Ice Dying. She will hold to workshops on Friday and Saturday at her home in Ottawa for those interested. In July, Cheryl Sleboda will talk about heirloom quilting into modern and lead a workshop on what to do with fabric.

At the general meeting, Carol B. reminded members that both the board minutes and the general meeting minutes will be posted on our website.

Laurie S. shared that our balance was $28,175,35, but that with some costs outstanding, our balance is closer to $31,000. She reminded members that she posts a monthly report of our finances. She also asked if members have any expense for which they need reimbursement. It was noted that the raffle tickets have a line on the front for the sellers.

Pam T. announced a couple big quilt shows: Grand Rapids on March 27 and Lancaster on May 8. She also mentioned that Quilting Arts Magazine would be April 25.

Nicole spoke about community outreach. Kits will be available for the heartbeat quilts and a sew day on April 15 followed by our meeting. Other personal sewing projects may be worked on at Sew Days.

Pat announced that Lynn A won the Survey Question and Pam T won the other raffle.

Sheila R. announced that the Monthly Mystery was ending and that the finished top must be done by our May meeting. There will be a short show and tell for that and a winner announced.

Noemi B. that the guild now owns 6 new books..

Nancy P. spoke about the Kona Challenge, indicated the requirements that they must be 20×20 with a 4” sleeve. See Nancy for labels. They will be shown this year in the library and other locations, with last year’s on the road as well.

There were only a few Show and Tell quilts.

There was a request for discussion of the bylaws but the president indicated that the discussion could take place on our website.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:33.
