June 2023 Social & Potluck meeting recap

Submitted by Barb S., Secretary

The Bloomington Normal Modern Quilt Guild met on June 27, 2023.  As in past years, this meeting was a social meeting with a potluck dinner and a short business meeting.   President Lisa B. welcomed everyone.  Members then enjoyed a delicious potluck dinner and it’s safe to say no one went away hungry.

Following dinner, the members were each told to write down something about themselves that most did not know about them.   It did not have to be quilting related.   Each individual table would then look at the results and choose one to be presented to the group.  Lisa read each selection and the group tried to guess which member it represented.  Everyone enjoyed trying to figure out the clue.

Business Meeting:

Noemi reported that we currently have 132 members.  Tonight, there were 46 attending in person and 9 attending via zoom.

Barb S., Vivian H., Linda L., Laurie S.

  • President: Vivian Hoette
  • Vice-President: Linda Lambert
  • Treasurer: Laurie Schierer
  • Secretary: Barb Stevens

Being no further nominations from the floor, it was moved by Danna B. and seconded by Leslie S. The slate be accepted   The election of officers will be at the August meeting.

The Shop Hop committee reminded everyone that the “passports” are available tonight for $2.00 per person.  The Shop Hop will begin on June 28, 2023, and continue until July 25.

Members were reminded to have their BNMQG membership card with them when visiting each shop, as some shops are offering specials just for BNMQG members. Hope you have been enjoying shop hopping!

Nancy P. was busy collecting quilts for the Decatur Arts Council Show, happening August 4th through 24th. All members and their guests are invited to a reception at the gallery on August 4th from 5 pm CST to 7 pm CST. Decatur Area Arts Council, Anne Lloyd Gallery, 125 North Water Street, Decatur, IL 62526

She was also busy returning quilts that were in previous shows, but will not be at the Decatur show. Lots of sorting and tracking!

Several members then showed several completed projects including some which were completed at Vickie A.’s fabric dyeing workshop.

Following this portion of the business meeting, the second game of the evening was played.   It was a dice game with the winner at each table going home with several fabric strips and/or 5” fabric squares.
